Viva Santana was founded in 1987 and is the earliest tribute band other than Randy Hansen/Jimi Hendrix and Beatlemania. The band  features original members, along with players from Santana, Malo, Mark Farner etc..

The tribute to Santana came by way of a battle of the bands at the Bachinal, San Diego Ca in 1988. It was a 45 minute time slot and Viva was doing original Latin rock,  however, the subject came up of how well they played the B-side Santana tunes after rehearsals, along with Santana hits. Viva Santana won the Battle and still going strong.   Viva Santana has rocked Mexico, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Niagara Falls, New York, Los Angeles-Conga Room ,Staple Center, New Orleans and much more. The band  always delivers an explosive show.
